The CMBTS (Chemical and Biological Medical Treatment Symposia) series was started in 1994 in AC-Laboratory in Swiss Spiez and up to now 17 scientific symposia have been organized, 8 in Switzerland and 6 in Croatia. CBMTS-Industry series started in 1998 when a symposium titled CBMTS Indutry I – "Eco Terrorism: Chemical and Biological Warfare Without Chemical and Biological Weapons", during which a successful exercise Kutina '98 was held. The exercise showed possible consequences of the attack on chemical industry which could be greater than if the chemical weapons were used. CBMTS Indutry series of congresses started in conjunction with the First World Congress on “CBRN Terrorism” from 21-27 April 2001.
From its inception, CBMTS-Industry series of scientific symposia is considering the NCB terrorism as a threat from all aspects. CBMTS Industry VII: World Congress on the CBRN Threat and Terrorism, as the 18th symposium in CBMTS series and 7th in CBMTS-Industry series, will continue its original tradition of discovering and considering new insights in NCB terrorism spectre. Themes of the congress encompass scientific approaches to the terrorism problem and medical aspects of NCB terrorism.
The Organizing Committee, located at the company TECTUS d.o.o., consists of representatives of ministries, Croatian state administration bodies and scientific and academic institutions from Croatia and abroad.
More than 150 people from 45 countries worldwide participated at the CBMTS-Industry congresses so far, including highly ranked scientists and experts from the areas of medicine, toxicology, biochemistry, physics and biotechnology who take part in preventing the dissemination of knowledge and technologies about weapons of mass destruction, modern methods of detection and identification of chemical, biological and radioactive substances, personal and collective protection, decontamination, assessment of potential outcomes and options of medical treatments in case of NCB terrorism. Many of them are expected at the CBMTS-Industry VII.
By successfully organizing six international symposia the Republic of Croatia became a country that traditionally hosts NCB congress series with focus on new forms and methods of threat to peace and security – terrorism, specifically NCB terrorism.
As an introduction to the congress, a traditional CBMTS-Industry series pre-congress, or OPCW international workshop will be organized by Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons from the Hague, Netherlands and should take place on April 9th and 10th 2011.
